So what’s now?

Published by Asanka under Web Designing

You study Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, Director and etc… you start your career as a web designer then you get your first assignment, to create a professional looking website, you feel good about this because this is your bread and butter, then you go in front of your computer and stare at a blank screen. WHAT’S NOW

If you are a designer you know what I’m talking about. You’ll definitely feel that you miss something in your learning curve; well you are right, because you forgot to look beyond computer screen. In simple you missed something calls idea generation.

“Idea generation” how do I learn that. All you need is a pencil, scrap book and pair of eyes. Your been looking around the world since you where born but now you have to learn to look in a designers perspective.

Now how do I do that? Well it’s not that tough because most of the things around you are shapes and interfaces. Look at your calendar on your table or hang on the wall, just by looking at it you know what day it is, did you ever thought how did you find that so fast. It’s because it’s a very user friendly interface. Now try to look at things in that perspective, when you see interesting interface or shape of an object note it down in your scrap book. This would unable you to come up with grate designs without spending so many hours staring at a blank screen.

Now you know how to come up with, an out of the world design so you show it to your client and he rejects it oh ohh why did this happen.

You forgot to look at the requirement: what sort of information is presented through your interface. Ok let’s go back to calendar example why it is so user friendly: because it gives priority to information. This is what you should do, give priority to information that you are presenting through your interface. As a designer I know that you want to show off your skills but if it’s not required don’t put it.

This is a good starting point if you want to be a good web designer. Stay tune for more about web designing and development.

Fresh Start

Published by Asanka under Fresh start

Hi guys, after much thought I decided to give blogging a try. I’m using WordPress for the first time, so I’m still in unfamiliar territory. Anyway, It took me a couple of hours to get this thing (blog) to match the look and feel of my website.

According to a good friend of mine, blogging is nothing but a jobless pastime. She may be right, but I see another side to it. I’m planning to add up-to-date events and new technologies that I come across: mainly related to web designing and development. Ok then, that’s it for now! Till next time, cheerio!
